TELETHERAPY
Have your therapist virtually come to you!
HAVE YOU BEEN THINKING ABOUT SEEKING THERAPY BUT FEEL LIKE YOU NEVER HAVE THE TIME?
Do you find it hard to make appointments consistently because your schedule keeps changing each week, you are taking care of the kids at home, you travel for work, or you have long commutes between home and work?
Although our physical location is in the heart of Chicago, NVision You offers teletherapy for those who want support, but find it difficult to get into the therapy office. Teletherapy is known by many names: virtual therapy, online therapy, telemental health, telemedicine, telehealth, and distance therapy.
ONLINE THERAPY OFFERS MANY ADVANTAGES FOR CLIENTS WHEN IT’S A CHALLENGE TO SCHEDULING IN-PERSON SESSIONS, INCLUDING:
Improved access to care
Increased flexibility to accommodate scheduling needs
Saving time that would have been spent commuting, working, or on other relationship or self-care activities
Saving money that may have been spent on child care, parking, or missed appointment fees if getting to the office would have been difficult due to life’s surprises
Continuity and consistency in care when work, travel, inclement weather, and unexpected circumstances such as a sick child can make it difficult to attend sessions
Increased sense of safety when meeting from the comforts of your home, which may lead to a greater willingness to look inward, feel vulnerable, and try something different in your daily life.
Concerns that can be addressed successfully by teletherapy include:
Anxiety and stress
Adjustment to a new situation or life transition
Social support - dating, friendships, and navigating relationships
Couples counseling
Loneliness
Identity development and exploration
Cultural identity and issues
Food, body, and eating concerns
Healthier behaviors
Career exploration
Decision-making
Low motivation
An accountability partner
Developing coping skills
Lifestyle behaviors, self-care, boundaries & balance
The concerns listed below are situations we feel are best addressed in person rather than through online therapy. If needed, we can help you find appropriate referrals for online therapy with practices who may be better able to successfully work with you that way.
Substance abuse
High risk relationship counseling (e.g., risk for partner violence)
Self-harm behaviors and strong suicidal thoughts
Online therapy would take place over our HIPAA-secure platforms, PracticeQ and Google Meet,, in the form of video conferencing or phone calls. This allows for synchronous communication, in which you and your therapist share the same virtual space at the same time, without distraction, and interact in real-time with each other for an agreed-upon length of time. This is in contrast with asynchronous communication, such as email and texting, in which you and your therapist are typically not in the same virtual place at the same time, and don’t have an agreed-up length of time for communication.
Many insurance plans cover synchronous telehealth services, but you’ll need to check with your HR department or insurance provider to learn if your specific plan covers telehealth services. We also accept self-pay clients for teletherapy.
